St. Charles FC & DME Academy Team Up In Ireland!

Introduction:

In July, Ten of our Saint Charles FC 2010B Pre-USL Academy players teamed up with DME Academy Sarasota to form DME Academy International, head coached by our Boys Director Sean McGuigan- Hart the team would embark on a ten-day adventure to Northern Ireland for the esteemed Northern Ireland SuperCup, also known as the Milk Cup. This tournament is a celebrated platform for emerging football talent, with previous participants including stars like Gary Neville, Wayne Rooney, Sergio Busquets & Jozy Altidore.

Tournament Highlights:

Here’s a recap of their group stage matches:

  1. Game 1: Tyrone County (0-6 Loss)
    • DME began their campaign against Tyrone County, a team of elite players selected from across Ireland. Despite a strong first-half performance that saw the teams tied 0-0, Tyrone’s depth took over in the second half, resulting in a 6-0 loss. The team faced challenges but rallied together off the field, building camaraderie for the next match.
  2. Game 2: Blackburn Rovers (5-4 Win)
    • Facing Blackburn Rovers, a team with a storied history in English football, DME delivered a standout performance. Taking an early 3-0 lead, they fought off Blackburn’s comeback attempts to secure a 5-4 victory. The team’s tenacity and ability to win crucial tackles earned them recognition and admiration from fans.
  3. Game 3: Antrim County (1-1 Draw)
    • With a draw against Antrim County, DME aimed to secure a top spot in their group. The match was highly competitive, with DME initially taking the lead. Despite a late equalizer from Antrim, the draw was a testament to DME’s resilience and skill, ensuring their progression to the knockout stage.

Knockout Stage:

  • Game 4: Charlton Athletic F.C. (0-2 Loss)
    • In the knockout stage, DME faced Charlton Athletic F.C. Although they were defeated 2-0, the team proved they could compete with high-caliber English clubs, showing growth and potential.

Off-Field Growth:

The trip provided invaluable experiences beyond the pitch. The boys managed personal responsibilities like laundry and game preparations, parades, formed lasting friendships, and embraced the excitement of fan interactions and shared experiences, such as bus rides and locker room moments.
